Over 32
years ago, in October 1971, REPA was born. It was first known as
Eastern Retired Pilots Association. Captains E.M. Taylor and L.C.
Transou (both under age 55 at the time) approached Col. Frank Borman on
his feelings about them starting an association of retired pilots. Col.
Borman was very interested and pledged full support from the company.
A
telephone campaign was begun which resulted in about twenty retired
pilots meeting in the living room of E.M. Taylor's house to discuss the
plan. All were in favor of starting up as soon as possible.
The first
organizing convention was held at Key Biscayne on December 8, 1971, and
the first By-laws were composed on December 9, 1971. At that meeting
Paul Foster was elected President; George Youngerman, Vice President;
Jim Talton, Vice President; Jack Lambie, Secretary; and Walt Tullis,
Treasurer.
The name
of the Association was changed in January 1974 to the Retired Eastern
Pilots Association, more commonly known as REPA. Beginning in 1977, the
Newsletter became known as REPArtee.
With our membership
base now at approximately 1400 (Regular, Affiliate, Widows
and Honorary) we are admired by most of the major airline
retiree associations. We have taken the initiative to create
this website, assemble essential information and present it
in the most beneficial format. We want to inform the general
public about our group, our mission and our goals.
Our
mission is to foster the well-being and future growth of REPA by
collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information about
our group and related subjects. Our objectives are to increase
awareness, to encourage development, to examine issues, facilitate
exchange of information and to promote our interests.
We
appreciate you taking the time to visit this website and we hope you
come back soon. We will be updating the site regularly to keep you
informed of upcoming events so be sure to bookmark this page and check
back often.
